To see, to do

La Brenne, a natural regional reserve, is the ideal place for nature lovers.

Numerous hiking trails cross it. They give you the opportunity to walk along magnificent ponds, to observe a particular fauna and flora, and perhaps even to meet large animals (roe deers, deers, wild boars...).

It is close to the castles of the Loire Valley, or historical monuments such as the castle of Valençay, residence of Talleyrand, that of Azay-le-Ferron or prehistoric, Gallic and Gallo-Roman sites such as Argentomagnus.

Let yourself be transported back in time to share the life of the first inhabitants of the Claise Valley: Paleolithic hunter-gatherers roamed these lands, Neolithic farmers settled there, then, 2000 years ago, the Gallo-Romans built a large villa there, of which fragments of painted decoration have been found. Discover the techniques of the painters of Antiquity and the life-size evocation of their paintings thanks to the work of archaeologists who patiently reconstruct the puzzle of the disappeared décor...

The Martizay museum hosts the heritage entrusted to us by this vanished humanity: flints, pottery, a grain millstone, sarcophagi, the painted decoration of a Gallo-Roman villa... A visit that is both fascinating and moving.

    OT Destination Brenne

    Description :

The permanent exhibition of the ecomuseum, "Men, a country, a history", installed within the walls of Château Naillac, stages the memory of the Pays de Brenne in a lively and educational way. It speaks of men, creators of ponds, salt workers, blacksmiths, farmers... who lived in these places, leaving here and there traces sometimes minute, other times more recognizable. The visit, original and attractive, is punctuated by models, reconstructions and old and current recordings. The ecomuseum offers a cultural program all year round to discover the Brenne: heritage visits, activities for young people, entertainment, etc. A place not to be missed and complementary to a natural discovery of the territory.

The ecomuseum welcomes you to the Château Naillac, which has dominated the Creuse river for more than 800 years and offers you an exceptional view of the territory. Flanked by its two 12th century dungeons and remodelled several times over the course of its history, it has nevertheless retained a seigniorial hall decorated with a Romanesque fireplace, the interior framework of a hoard and many other riches... The ecomuseum was created around the bird museum, which aims to inventory, study, conserve and promote the heritage of the Brenne Regional Natural Park.

The Brenne ecomuseum reveals the secrets of an exceptional territory. It invites you to discover and understand the history of the Brenne and the people who inhabit it. The birds, ethnological and historical collections bear witness to the ecological richness of the territory and its heritage. Exhibitions on the themes of nature, history and its inhabitants illustrate the treasures of the Brenne. The ecomuseum offers a cultural program all year round to discover the Brenne: heritage visits, activities for young people, entertainment, etc. A place not to be missed and complementary to a natural discovery of the territory.

Heritage guided tours: Historical walk in the lower town.

Thematic workshops for families, clay birds (from 8 years old).

Not to be missed are gourmet markets, "Naillac'Art" art market, creation market with exhibition of artists and craftsmen.
